2328. చచ్చేటప్పుడు శంకరా శంకరా అన్నాడట.

When he was at the point of death he cried " Sankara! Sankara ! (Siva.)

Deathbed repentance.

2329. చదువులలో మర్మమంతా చదివినాను అన్నాడట.

I have become acquainted with all the secret mysteries of learning.

The allusion is to the story of Prahlada son of Hiranyakasipa. The words of the Proverb are found in the Telugu translation of the Bhagavata Parana, ( but not in the Sanscrit original,) as having been used by Prahlada to his father.—( See Vishnu Purana Book I, Chapters 17—20.)

Said of a man who pretends to be learned.

2330. చదువూ లేదు, సంధ్యా లేదు, సంతానం మెండు.

[ He has ] no learning and [ says ] no prayers but [ has ] numerous issue.

Said of an ignorant, irreligious, sensual man.

2331. చవి యెరిగిన కుక్క చావగొట్టినా పోదు.

A dog attached [to his master ] will not leave him though he be beaten [ almost ] to death.

2332. చింత లేదు, చింత లేకపోతే పులుసు లేదు.

"No matter" said one," Then if there's no tamarind, there's no acid" said the other.

There is here a pun upon the word Chinta which means both "thought, sorrow" and also " tamarinds."
