TELUGU PROVERBS.
183. ఆ పప్పు యీ నీళ్లకు వుడకదు.
- That pulse cannot be cooked with this water.
- The pulse alluded to is the Csjanus Indicns (See No. 32) commonly called Dal ( Hind.) It requires to be boiled in good sweet water to make it soft and fit for eating.
- A phrase similar to “That game won't pay,” “That cock won’t fight."
184. ఆపస్తంబులా ఆశ్వలాయనులా అంటే, ఆపస్తంబులమూ కాము, ఆశ్వలాయనులమూ కాము, అప్పారావుగారి హర్కారాలము అన్నారట.
- When asked whether they belonged to the Apastamba or Asvalayana sect, they replied “We are neither the one nor the other, we are messengers of Appa Rao.”
- Utter ignorance of religion.
185. ఆ బుర్రలో విత్తనాలే.
- They are seeds out of the same bowl.

186. ఆమడలు దూరమయితే, అంతఃకరణలు దూరమా.
- If the leagues are long, are the hearts far distant ?
- An Amada (4 Kos) is a distance varying from 8 to 10 miles.
- Distance cannot alter true friendship.
187. ఆముదపు చేటేగాని, బిడ్డ బ్రతకడము లేదు.
- Only waste of castor oil, but not [saving] the child’s life.
- Useless endeavours.
188. ఆముదములో ముంచిన యేకువలె వున్నాడు.
- He is like a flock of cotton dipped in castor oil.
- To look like a drowned mouse.
