2104. సాయెబూ చిక్కిపోయినావేమంటే, యింకా చిక్కుతాం, మరీ చిక్కుతాం, మనసూ వస్తే చచ్చీపోతాం, నీకేమి అన్నాడట.

When the Sahib was asked how it was he had grown so thin, he said “We will grow thinner, and still thinner, and if we like we will even die, what’s that to you?”

Said of a supercilious fool.

2105. సాలెకూ జంగానికీ సంధి కుదురుతుందా.

Can the weaver and the tailor be reconciled?

This is a joke :—the tailors cut up the weavers‘ cloth.

2106. సాలెజాండ్ర సభామధ్యే సాతానిః పండితాయతే |

వుల్లీవనసమూహేషు జోరీగః కోకిలాయతే||

A Sâtâni is a Pandit among the weavers; the gad-fly is a cuckoo in the onion gardens.^[1]

To the unskilled the voice of the sparrow is music. (Latin)^[2]

2107. సాలె సభకు సాతాని పెద్ద, వుల్లివనానకు జోరీగ కోకిల.

In a council of weavers a Sâtâni presides; in an onion garden the gad-fiy is a cuckoo.

2108. సింహము యేనుగును చంపునేగాని, చచ్చిన కుక్కను తినునా.

A lion will kill an elephant, but will it eat a dead dog?

A noble-minded man is above mean actions.

2109. సిద్దన్నా కవులూరన్నట్టు.

Like saying to Siddanna “Here is Kavuluru.”

In this proverb Telugu is mixed with Sanscrit and the Telugu words are used in an absurd manner with Sanscrit case-endings. It reads as ridiculously as

Alum se sit stalum non est malum;

Beerum se sit cleerum est synorum.

Inter indoctos etiam corydus sonat.
