వెరువ వలె పాపమునకును,
వెరువగ వలె మరణమునకు, విశ్వము లోనన్
మరువగ వలె సంగమముల,
మరి మరువగ వలదు మేలు, మహిలో వేమా. 62
ఇచ్చకము భువిన' వశ్యము *[1]
కుచ్చితమీ లోక నింద కోవిదునకునీ,
తుచ్ఛమున, హాని వచ్చును;
మచ్చరమే తన్ను జెరుచు, మహిలో వేమా. 63
కోతి బట్టి తెచ్చి, కొత్త పుట్టము గట్టి †[2]
కొండముచ్చులె'ల్ల గొలిచి' నట్లు,
నీతి హీనులో' ద్ద నిర్భాగ్యులుందురు. వి. 64
62. Let us fear to sin, and stand in awe of death. Let us forget the ties of earthly affections; but never let us forget kindness that we have received.
63. Civility is indispensable in the world; but hypocrisy is a disgrace to the most sagacious of men: baseness leads to ruin; and malice towards others leads to our own destruction..‡[3]
64. If you catch a monkey and dress it in * new robe, the hill apes will all worship it. Thus are the luckless subject to the senseless.
