TELUGU PROVERBS--SUPPLEMENT.

2677. చిన్ననాడూ లేవు, పెద్దనాడూ లేవు, చంధ్రశేఖరుడినాడు చెవుల పోగులా.

I had them, not in childhood, nor in age, am I now to have earrings in Chandrasekhara's time?

 Said by a father to whom earrings offered when, in his old age, a son had been born to him. 

2678. చుక్కలూళ్ళో చక్కరాలు తేబోయినాడు.

He had gone to fetch Cakkilams from star-town. i.e. He has died. For cakkilam see No.1609.

2679. చూస్తే సుంకం, చూడకపోతే బింకం.

If seen duty; If not seen-- bragging. The allusion is to a person attempting to smuggle goods through a custom house--If caught, double duty was sacted.

2680. చెడ్డాపడ్డా చేబ్రోలే గతి.

If one is unfortunate, Chebrolu is a refuge. Cebrolu is a village in Guntur District.

2681. తప్పతిని కులం మరచినట్టు.

Eating to excess, he forgets his caste. Said one of a man who, being sumptuously entertained forgets his low origin.

2682. తప్పులేనివాణ్ని వుప్పులో వెయ్యమన్నాడట.

Put the faultless man into the salt. If you cannot ruin him in any way, put him into the Salt Department--there you can easily bring a charge of dishonesty against him and get rid of him.
