KENSINGTON. 23rd December 1881. My dear Sir, Miss Manning, Secretary of the National lndian Association, proposes publishing serially in the Journal, “translations of good Indian fiction, in which the English reader will see Indian Home life delineated and thus a very attractive feature will be added to the Magazine.” I believe a Bengal story will be the first of the series, but I have suggested to Miss Manning that a translation of your Rajasekhara might perhaps be found suitable, and she seems much pleased with the idea. I write therefore to ask whether you would like your novel to be published in the Journal and whether you would in that case send an English translation of it for publication, with permission to omit or abridge any passages, which the Editor might deem suitable. - ங் I wish I would add that the publication of your novel in this form would bring you some profit as well as reputation, but the contributors to the Journal are not paid for their articles.
