భరతాచార్యులవారు ప్రవచించినట్లు
'నతత్ శ్రుశం నతత్ శిల్పం నసా విద్యా ససా కళా
నాసౌ యోగో నతత్ కర్మ యన్నా ట్యే..స్మి న్నదృశ్యతే.'
(శ్రుతము, శిల్పము, విద్య, కళ, యోగము, కర్మ సమస్తమును సమ స్తభేదములతో నాటకమున ప్రదర్శింపబడును.)
'ధర్మ్యం యశస్య మాయుష్యం హితం బుద్ధివివర్ధనమ్'
అనుటచే నిది లోకారాధ్యమనుటయు సునిశ్చితము. ఈయర్థమునే ఆంగ్లకవి శేఖరుడగు షెల్లీ (Shelly) సుధీమణి _ 'The connection of poetry and social good is more observable in the drama than in any other form; and it is indisputable that the highest perfection of human society has ever corresponded with the highest dramatic excellence, and that the corruption or extinction of the drama in a nation where it has once flourished marks a corruption of manners and an extinction of energies which sustain the soul of social life; for the end of social corruption is to destroy all sensibility to pleasure' అని వివరించియున్నాడు.
ఒకానొక జాతియాన్నత్యము తజ్జాతిని ప్రకాశించు నాటకకళ నానుకొనియుండునని ప్రాజ్ఞులు తలంతురే, అట్టి యమూల్యపదార్థము నెట్లుపయోగించుకొనవలయును అనుప్రశ్న సామాన్యముగ నెల్లరకు పొడకట్టుచుండును.
'సద్యః పరనిర్వృతయే' అనుటచేతను, 'కావ్యేషు నాటకం రమ్యమ్' అనుట చేతను నాటక ముఖ్య ప్రయోజనము ప్రీతియేయని తరచుగ తలంతురు. పాశ్చాత్య పండితులలో అనేకులుకూడ కవిత్వమునకును తక్కిసకళలకును ముఖ్య ప్రయోజనము హృదయజన్య రసాస్వాదలక్షణమగు నానందమే అని యున్నారు.
