§ oరూ న్వే య చ రి رق Sos ఈపుస్తకమునుగూర్చి యీ దేశములోని వార్తాపత్రికలిచ్చిన యఖి ప్రాయములలో నొకదాని ననగా 1878-వ సంవత్సరమున నింగ్లీ పు"షయందు చెన్నపట్టణములోఁ బ్రకటింపఁబడుచుండిన హిందూపత్రికాభిప్రాయములాశ కొంతభాగము నిందు క్రిందఁ బొందుపఱుచుచున్నాను. “As yet the complaint has been that the Vernacular literature is barren of good and useful books, and the few that it contains are unintelligible to the general reader, their style being too highly artificial and difficult to be of any interest to students of ordinary attainments. This defect, especially in the Telugu literature, of sacrificing ideas at the shrine of gingling words, is somewhat being remedied by the useful publications of the School Book Society. But we are afraid that these works err in the opposite extreme. In aiming at simplicity, they too often set at nought the first principles of Grammar and sometimes violate the very genius of the languge. Though written by able. Pundits who are obliged for earning their honorium. to conform to the beau ideal style of the society, these works lack the force of originality and devoid of a vigorous style, they seem to be dull, inert and lifeless, We consider that the golden mean is somewhere between the rigid and artificial style found in standard books and carried into the daily business of life by the Editor of the late Andhra Bhasha Sanjivani, and the loose, lifeless style of the various translations of the Vernacular Literature Society, which we are sorry, have found their way into the University curriculum, though they do not deserve to be ranked with the classical works in as much as they do not soar above common place style and diction. We are glad, therefore, to find that Mr. Kandukuri, Viresalingam Pantulu has struck on the happy mean
