He gave up his school education after joining the F. A. class and chose to build up a career as a people 's-stage-musical narrator. Packed audiences of all types of people, rural, urban, educated, illiterate, the superstitious, the rational, public servants and private land owners, all of whom highly admired him, rewarded him with gifts of money, apparel, ornaments etc. His perambulations extended to the whole of the Andhra Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Tamilnadu, Delhi, Utkal and other provinces where also he had been in great demand.
At the age of 40 he had mastered Urdu, Parsee, Arabic, later translated Omar Khayyam into Telugu and Sanskrit, had produced a huge literature consisting of prose works, poetry, musical plays and his fame extended and got established in the whole country.
Before we can assess any one work of any reputed author, it may be advantageous to know his biography and place it, properly in the list of all his works. He has himself given us an autobiography from which we can gather a number of facts and the atmosphere he had to work in, at the time of the production of this particular work. The present work Navarasatarangini was first published in 1922, three years exactly after he became the principal of the Music college established by the Maharajah of Vizianagaram. Before this he had been honoured everywhere outside Vizianagaram in Mysore, Madras, Calcutta etc.
At that time there were already two colleges in that place, the Maharajah's English College a first grade institution, and a Sanskrit College where very reputed Pandits taught the various Sastras, Telugu and Sanskrit literature, which had two principals of .great name, fame and learning. He did not want to lag behind them, being the principal of the College of Music which had not got a great respect in the estimation of these scholars. Narayana Das was never contented to be a man thought inferior to his
