2173. ఆకలి కాకుండా నీకు ఔషధము యిస్తాను, నీ యింట్లో చద్ది నాకు పెట్టు అన్నాడట.

I'll give medicine to keep away hunger, give me your cold breakfast.

2174. ఆకలికొన్నవాడు, యెంగిటికి యేవగించడు.

The hungry man will not refuge leavings.

2175. ఆకాశం గద్ద తన్నుకొని పోయినది.

The sky was kicked away by the kite.

              said an answer ao an impertinent question.

2176. ఆకాశానికి నిచ్చెన వేశేవాడు.

A man who plants a ladder on the sky.

                   Ambitious.

2177. ఆచారం ముందర, అనాచారం వెనక.

Purity first and impurity after.

        Impurity always attends purity.

2178. ఆచార్యునికి ద్రోహము చేశినా, ఆత్మకు ద్రోహం చెయ్యరాదు.

Though you cheat your priest you should not cheat your own life. Take good care of yourself, eventhough your priest badly. Said by a selfish, greedy mgn.

2179. ఆడదాని బుద్ధి అపర బుద్ధి.

A woman's sense is wrong sense.

2180. ఆడపిల్లను కన్నవారు అయిదు బిరుదులు తెగకోసుకోవలెను.

Those who beget female children must cut off five of their badges of honor.. A man though raised to a distiguished position in the world has yet to lhumble before his sons-in-law for the sake of his daughters, who might otherwise not to be well treated.

2181. ఆడేకాలు పాడే నోరూ వూరకుండవు.

A dancing foot and a singing mouth are never quiet.

2182. ఆత్మకు ద్రోహంచేస్తే, అప్పుడే అడుగుతుంది.

If you cheat your life, it will then and there ask for [food].

2183. ఆమంట యీమంట, బ్రహ్మణార్ధం కదుపు మంట.

[Talk of] that burning this burning, this Brahmanaartha is belly burning. Said by a greedy vaidika brahman. Brahmanaartha is an inviration issued to two or three brahmans on the anniversary of the death of a relative.

2184. ఆ మాట అనిపింతామా మామగారా

Shall we have that word said? O father-in-law! When a Komati was dying and the word "Narayana" had to be pronounced in his eara, all his relations tried to shrink this disgracable duty. The allusion in the proverb is to a proposal made by one of them that the taks should be imposed upon the oldest man present.

2185. ఆముదపు విత్తులు, ఆణిముత్యాలు అవునా.

Will Castor oil seeds become fine pearls?

2188. ఆర్బాటానకు ఆరు కుంపట్లు వక దుంపదాలి.

2189. ఆలు గుణవంతురాలు అయితే, మేలు కలుగును.

If trhe wife is good is of good disposition, good will accrue.

2190. ఆళ్ళు కొథవి అయితే, తిరగండ్లు కొత్తవా.

Though All be new, are mill stores new?

2191. ఆవగింజ అట్టె దాచి గుమ్మడి కాయ గుల్లకాసుగా యెంచేవాడు.

A man who saves a mustard seed and thinks pumpkin worth a shell-coin. (For gummadi kaaya see No.517) Penny wise and pound foolish. They drink their own water by measure but cat their cake without.(Greek)*

2192. ఆవుల సాధుత్వమూ, బ్రాహ్మణుల పేదరికమూ లేదు.

There is no meekness in cows, nor poverty in Brahmins.

His desire is on his wife and his support on his mat.

                Nothing for it but resignation.

2194. ఆశలేనివానికి దేశమెందుకు.

Why should la man without desire be in the world?

2195. ఇంటి పిల్లికి పొరుగింటి పిల్లి తోడు.

The neighbour's cat is ally of of the house cat.

               Both join in mischief.

2196. ఇచ్చకాలవారు బుచ్చకాలవారు పొట్టకొరకు పొక్కులు గోకుతారు.

Syoophants scrach pimples for a livelyhood.

2197. ఇచ్చేటప్పుడు కాముని పండగ, పుచ్చుకొనేటప్పుడు దీపావళి పండగ.

Giving is like Kama's festival, taking is like the feast of Dipavali.

Kamadahana is mournful commemoration of the burning of Kandarpa or Kamadeva (the god of live) by the fire from Siva's eye, when he interrupted the god is in his devotions. Dipavali or Dipala is a joyous festival with noctunal illuminations in honour of Kartikeya. The name signifies "a row of lamps."

2198. ఇత్యపులు కూయగా కోనంగుడేయగా! ఆప్యేకదంతుడు పున్నపుంసమెక్కి ఆడెనమ్మా!!

When the Ityapis cried, and Konanga shot [his darts.] Alpeyakadanta mounted the punnapumasakam and danced O lady! An absurd cuplet composed by a would be- poet. He attempted to make use of the synonyms given in the Amara Kosha; In his ignorance he mistook Ityapi ("no also") for a name of the cockoo, divided the words Darpakonanga (names of Kamadeva), wrongly taking konanga, used Apyeya kadhanta ("also Ekadanta") as name of Ganesa and read Punnapumsakam ("masculine and neuter") as a synonym of Valmika ("an anthill.")--(See celebrook's Amara Khosa 2nd edn., PP.5,76,131.)
