Usage
[మార్చు]A template to offset text as having a stress emphasis. Most browsers will render this with italics. Note that this is distinct from the standard MediaWiki method of generating italics (''example'' or example), as that uses the i
HTML tag, which stands for idiomatic text. Use this template for wording that needs to be stressed such as “You cannot be serious…” or “All visitors must sign in at the front desk”. Use the standard MediaWiki italicization for things such as:
- Alternative voice or mood (“Huh, what does that mean? I guess it could be safe to drink.”)
- Certain taxonomic designations, such as species (“The noble guinea pig, or Cavia porcellus eats only vegan food.”)
- Terms or short passages in another language (“Olusegun Obasanjo made an impressive entrance, flanked by over a dozen bodyguards and dressed in an ornate agbada.”) Note that longer passages in another language should not be set this way and that foreign language text should be accompanied with {{lang}}.
- Technical terms (“As the biomass goes through stages of combustion, it will initially pyrolize before reaching full gasification.”)
- Transliterations (“The Book of Genesis is known as בְּרֵאשִׁית (English, Bereshit or Bərēšīṯ) for ‘in the beginning’ in Hebrew.”)
- Thoughts (“While the dull professor drolled on, she wondered will this ever end, just as the bell rang.”)
- Ship or vessel names (“The tragedy of the USS Indianapolis will never be forgotten.”)
- Titles of longer creative works (“Read more about the new Hum album Inlet in Modern Rock Monthly Magazine.”)
Proper usage of this template:
- I have {{em text|never}} been so outraged in all my life!
to produce:
- I have never been so outraged in all my life!
