అపద్రవ్యములను బహిరంగముగా నమ్ముదురని తెలియుచున్నది. అవి రబ్బరుతో తయారైనవి. చైనా జపాను దేశములందు భోగస్త్రీలు రిన్నోటమా అను రెండు బంతులను గుహ్యస్థాన ముందుంచుకొని వీని కదలిక మూలమున రాగాధిక్యమును పొందుదురట. బాకమాంట్ వ్రాత ననుసరించి క్రీ.శ. 10 శతాబ్దము నాటి ఫ్రెంచి స్త్రీలు ఇట్టి కందుకములు రాగవర్ధకములుగ నుపయోగించినట్లు తెలియుచున్నది. దీనికి వారిడిన నామము POMMES D'AMOUR. అపద్రవ్యములలో శృంగార కింకిణుల (Bells of eroticism) నీట చెప్పవలసి ఉన్నది. మానవజాత్య సంబంధము (The sexuall relations of mankind) అను గ్రంథమున మాంటిగజ్జ వీనిని గురించి ఇట్లు వ్రాసి ఉన్నాడు. 'I was amazed to find a custom in this country which is both lascivious and ridiculous... The women holds great store with them for when they are swen into the skin of the man's member they causes a swelling of tremulous length of the entire genital parts. Hence they claim their males have greater endurance and give them far greater pleasure. The men decorated in this fashion are held in high esteem by the women, and, when they walk through the streets believe it to be a mark of honour if the tinkling of the bells is heard' పురాతన భారతీయ స్త్రీల కింకిణీ ధారణ మెందుల కుద్దేశితమైనదో దీనినిబట్టి కొంతగ మనకర్థము కాగలదు. శృంగార కలస్వనములకు గల సన్నిహిత సంబంధమే అందుకు ముఖ్య కారణము.
