Thus Kesiraju in his grammar Sabdamanidarpana" has the following : (1) శబ్ద ద్రవ్యం జనియిసుగుంస్వేతం (2) శబ్దం జనియిసుగుం ధవళవర్ణం అక్షరరూపం బెళుకన్నడ లేక తెళుకన్నడ అనే దానికి ప్రాచీన రూపం హళగన్నడము లేదా హళకన్నడము. శబ్దాన్ని ద్రవ్య రూపముగా జైనులు భావిస్తూ వుండేవారు. మరి కొంతమంది దానిని అక్షరరూపంగా భావించారు. జైన సంబంధమైన శబ్ద ద్రవ్యం శ్వేతరూపంగా పరిగణింపబడినది. మరివొక చోట జైన సంబంధమైన శబ్దము అక్షర రూపముగనూ, ధవళరూపముగనూ తన శబ్ద మణి దర్పణములో కేశిరాజు పేర్కొన్నాడు. ధవళమంటే స్వచ్ఛమైనదని అర్థము. “వళగన్నడ లేదా ఓళదేశకన్నడ, refers to the word called దేశ్య, the native tongue including local peculiarities and dialects. అచ్చగన్నడ is the universal term of pure కన్నడ, తెళుగన్నడ means clear, transparent కన్నడ, and from the same root derived the name Telugu, the other language which has so close and affinity to Kannda and which is written in the same characters" వళగన్నడము లేదా ఓళ దేశ కన్నడ మనేది దేశ్య మనే శబ్దానికి చెందుతున్నది. దేశ్యమనగా మాతృభాష. ఇందులో మాండలిక భేదాలు, భాషలు చేరివున్నవి. శుద్ధ కన్నడ మనే దానిని విశాలమైన అర్థంలో అచ్చగన్నడ మందురు. తెళుగన్నడమంటే తేట అయిన కన్నడమని, పలుచనిదని, సన్ననిదని అర్థము. స్ఫటికము వంటి స్పష్టమైన భాష తెళుగన్నడము. తెళు గన్నడమనే పదము నుంచే, మరివొక భాషావాచకమైన “తెలుగు” అనే మాట పుట్టినది. కన్నడమునకును, తెనుగునకును ఎంతో దగ్గర సంబంధము కలదనీ, తెలుగు అక్షరముల వ్రాత కన్నడ లిపిని పోలియుండుననీ రెయిసు దొరగారి వ్యాఖ్యానమునకు అర్థము. పైదీ రెయిసు దొరగారి పీఠకలోనిది. గురుజాడలు 622 భట్టకలంకుడు
