FOR ORDERS

NOTE-1

C-No. 2/5

The Manager, People's Friend, 13th March 1888.

In this letter the Manager of the People's Friend by the desire of the Editor, forwards a copy of the paper of the 13th March, 1888 and invites attention to a leader entitled "The Madras Govt. and the Press". He goes on to suggest that certain orders of Govt. should be cancelled and the People's Friend supplied with all Govt. publications and certain specified ones.

The question of the supply of Govt. publications to the Press is some what difficult. Orders of Govt. - as distinguished from reports, books, etc., are easily and conveniently given to any newspaper that wants them, but the case is different with regard to expensive books, such as Maclean's Manual of admn. or the Manual of Malabar of Mr. Logan.
