VI preciation of the events that happened on that his- toric day in that historic city of Dheli, we feel happy in presenting this book to the public. The plan of the book does not require much explanation. We have had in mind the idea that the book should be really historical. We have at- tempted to give a brief history of the city of Dheli, the biographies of their Majesties, the histories of Representative Native States whose princes were the most prominent at the homage ceremony, and the history of the more important Durbars held at Dheli. Much less need there be said about the title of the book. The contents of it and the immediate cause of its publication do explain how it came to be named 'Dheli Durbar.' In the preparation of this work a very large number of books and papers has had to be consulted. The more important among them are given in a separate list. We have great pleasure in acknow- ledging our indebtedness to all the authors and editors and offering thein our sincerest thanks. We have to express our thanks to Mr. V.' Ramadoss Pantulu, B. A., B.
