FOREWORD

Ttion Durbar is now a historical fact. Foreworá. His Majesty Emperor George V's Corona- lion Durbar is now a historical fact. Mil- lions of people have rejoiced over the event and hundreds and thousands of them have expressed their intense pleasure in prose, verse and song. All have realized that the Durbar of the 12th of Decem- her 1911 is the most auspicious event in the history of our land. The time has now come for the Indian and the Briton to realize fully the responsi- bilities on either side and work together towards a common goal in complete trust and comradeship. Our Sovereign and his advisers, Lord Crewe and Lord Hardinge, have unmistakeably declared his will and made our millions throb with a new hope and a new life. His Majesty has by one of his boons indicated without doubt that the immediate work before us is the education of the people of our mother-land. And it is but right that those who have been engaged in that Department of work, be they among the rulers or the ruled, should treat the 12th of December last as a landmark in the history of India, more especially so, in the history of Indian Education.
