215. ఆశ బోధిస్తున్నది, అవమానము బాధిస్తున్నది.

Desire incites, the fear of shame prevents.

Shame may restrain what the law does not prohibit.

216. ఆశలేని కూటికి ఆకలి లేదు.

There is no appetite for food unhoped for.

217. ఆశ శిగ్గు యెరగదు, నిద్ర సుఖమెరగదు.

Avarice knows not shame; sleep knows not comfort.

When sleep overpowers, comfort is not thought of.

218. ఆశా పాతక బాపడు గోచిపాతలో తూమెడు కట్టుకొన్నాడట.

The avaricious Brahman tied up a tûmu [of grain] in his clout.

219. ఆసోది మాటలకు అర్థమూ లేదు, గుడ్డి కంటికి చూపూ లేదు.

There is no sense in words of condolence nor sight in a blind eye.

220. ఆహారమందూ వ్యవహారమందూ శిగ్గు పడకూడదు.

In eating and in business you should not be modest.
