1847. రత్నాలు తినే పక్షికి రత్నాలు, రాళ్లు తినే పక్షికి రాళ్లు.

To the bird that lives on gems, gems; to the bird that lives on stones, stones.

God provides all his creatures with that which they need.

1848. రవుతు కొద్దీ గుర్రము.

As rider, so horse.
The horse goes according to the skill of the rider.

1849. రవుతు మెత్తనయితే, గుర్రము మూడు కాళ్లతో నడుస్తున్నది.

If the rider be bad, the horse will go on three legs.
If the headman be soft, the subordinates will be careless.

1850. రక్షించినవాణ్ని భక్షించనా.

Are you to devour the man who has protected you?

Save a thief from the gallows, and he will be the first to cut your throat.

1851. రాగల శని రామేశ్వరము పోయినా తప్పదు.

Even if you perform a pilgrimage to Râmêśvaram, the pre-destinated evil will not fail to overtake you.

1852. రాగానకు నేను, అందానకు మా అక్క.

I for singing, my eldest sister for beauty.
Said by an ass of itself and the camel by way of praise.
Applied to a braggart.
Did you ever before hear an ass play upon a lute?
