1857: ముస్లింలు
గొప్ప సత్యాలు చాలా ఉన్నాయి. ఆ సత్యాల గణనలో గణాంక శాస్త్రం, అంకెలు ఎటు వంటి విలువలను కలిగి ఉండవు...హిందూ-ముస్లింల మధ్య ప్రకృతి విరుద్ధమైన ఐక్యత కోసం ప్రయత్నించటం మనముందున్న సమస్యకాదు. మన లక్ష్యమల్లా మనలో మనం ఐక్యతకు కృషి చేయటం అని పేర్కొన్నాడు.
(Hindustan is the homeland of the Hindus (alone). Therefore, it is the duty of the Hindus alone to free this nation from the chains of servitude. Muslims look towards Turkey and Arabia; their hearts are not in India. What is the use of bemoaning this fact? To appeal to them in the name of the Soil of Mother India is as pointless as talking to a brick wall. Today it is vital that we understand this point. This work is the work of Hindus, and no one else. There is no need to get agitated counting how numerous is the Muslim Population. Numbers are not ultimate truth in this world. There are greater truths, in whose scale of values the arithmetic of counting heads has no place...The problem before Hindus, therefore, is not to bring about this unnatural union between Hindus and Muslims. తొలితరం జాతీయవాదులలో ప్రజల గౌరవాభిమానాలను అపారంగా పొందిన ప్రముఖులలో లోకమాన్య తిలక్‌, లాలా లజపతరాయ్‌, అరవింద ఘోష్‌, బిపిన్‌ చంద్రపాల్‌ లాంటి వారు కూడా తాము చేసిస ప్రసంగాలు, రాసిన గ్రంథాలలో ముస్లింలను ఇతర జనసముదాయాల నుండి పూర్తిగా మినహాయిస్తూ తమ అనుచరవర్గాన్నీ, ప్రజలనూ ప్రభావితం చేశారు.
ఆ ప్రభావం కారణంగా ఈ గడ్డమీద పుట్టిపెరిగి ఇక్కడి మట్టిలోనే కలసిపోయిన మొగల్‌ వంశజులను కూడా పరాయివాళ్ళుగా పరిగణంచడం జరిగింది. ముస్లిం పాలకులకు పూర్వం ఇండియాలోని రాజ్యాల మీద పలు ప్రాంతాలకు చెందిన ఇతర పాలకులు కూడా దాడులు చేశారు. ఆ విధంగా ఎవరు దాడులు చేసినా పరాజిత రాజ్యాన్ని అందిన కాడకు దోచుకుని తిరిగి తమ స్వదేశాలకు వెళ్ళిపోయారు.
ఈ విషయంలో స్వదేశీ పాలకులు కూడా మినహాయింపు కాదు. ఇండియాలో కూడా రాజులు పరస్పరం యుద్ధాలు చేసుకోవడం, దాడులకు పాల్పడటం పరాజిత రాజ్యంలోని ప్రజల మీద దాడులు చేయడం, అక్కడి సంపదను తమ భూభాగాలలోకి
